Adam's Peak
is a religious destination for people of all religions. The
object of veneration at the Peak is the giant footprint found
at the summit, a print so large that it was probably not made
by a human foot. Over the centuries Adam's Peak has attracted
both kings and commoners – and the tide of humanity climbing
up the narrow steps has not stemmed even today. The pilgrimage
season begins in late December and continues till April. The
climb is usually undertaken at night. A 2 am departure will
ensure that you are at the top approximately four hours later
to watch a stunning sunrise. The area is bathed in the ethereal
glow of the dawn's rays and a few moments later a shadow of
the Peak is cast over the surrounding plains |
