Nuwara Eliya
is one of the highlights of Sri Lanka 's ‘hill country' –
a lush tea growing area located in the centre of the island.
Nuwara Eliya is famous for its quaint English architecture
– with Tudor style houses and flowering gardens. With its
pleasant and cool temperatures, Nuwara Eliya is the ideal
getaway from the tropical heat. In addition to the town's
charm, there are many things to do in and around Nuwara Eliya.
The Hakgala Gardens located just outside the town, is a botanical
garden with a plethora of rose trees and interesting shrubs.
The Seetha Aman temple pays homage to the Indian epic, the
Ramayana – as Sita, one of the main characters in the story
is said to have been held captive here by her abductor Ravana,
the King of Lanka.
Golfers will also enjoy Nuwara Eliya as the
town's Golf Club is an interesting course to play on. The
18-hole course was constructed in 1889 and still retains its
original club house. |
